Calendula is ruled by the Sun yet carries a gentle, receptive warmth — it is the great wound-healer of the plant kingdom, a plant of boundaries and protection. Its resinous petals have been used for millennia to soothe inflammation, restore the skin's integrity, and bring light into dark or depleted places. Calendula's solar nature here is soft — like late afternoon golden light rather than high noon.

Lavender belongs to Mercury and the Air element — a plant of the nervous system, the breath, and the space between thoughts. It is perhaps the most universally calming botanical known, easing tension held in the body, quieting the overactive mind, and creating the internal conditions for genuine rest. In Ayurvedic terms it is deeply Pitta-soothing and Vata-settling.
